Goodbye Summer, hello boots and flannel! I am by no means happy to see sunny Summer days leave us, but even I have to admit that as the seasons change, I could not be more excited about Fall fashion. Cooler weather brings fashion abundance, with more layers, more textures, and more outfit options. Is Fall fashion superior? As you’re transitioning from Summer to Fall, have a good rummage through your wardrobe and your Pinterest board, and approach outfit planning with some Fall trends that never go out of style.

Perhaps this is obvious, but patterns like flannel and plaid will always be trending for fall. While you’ve most likely seen plaid colorways and silhouettes come and go, a classic flannel button up to warm up your summer tanks is effortless and cozy. Branch out with skirts, scarves, tops that aren’t the usual button-up, headbands, and more.

Denim for Fall is just about as groundbreaking as florals for Spring, but denim is trending yet again this year in styles like trench coats, barrel jeans, and handbags. Pull out those jeans you haven’t been able to wear all summer the second the crisp fall air hits and you’re effortlessly on trend.

Boots are the name of the shoe game this year. Cowboy boots, motorcycle boots, the elusive thrifted vintage Frye Boots. We can’t get enough. Goodie for you, boots never go out of style for fall, which means if you aren’t wearing them already, you might have some in the back of your closet or at your local thrift store. Boots, mini skirts, and sweaters are a classic outfit silhouette that might justify your next shoe purchase. It’s safe to say boots are in, as long as you’re in them.

There’s no beating sweater weather. We’ve seen fall sweater trends come and go throughout the last couple of years, mock necked, cropped, and hand-knitted are all trends of sweaters past. This year’s sweater trends are neutral (of course), oversized (of course) and endlessly cozy. You likely have a couple folded away just begging to be worn.

Thrifted and faux leather have been in the trend pipeline for quite some time now. While we’re still seeing leather pants and tops, an argument can be made that more timeless and classic uses of leather, real or faux, appear in jackets and coats, shoes like loafers and boots, and handbags. I always recommend shopping for quality faux leather. Shiny, thin faux-leather doesn’t quite give you that real-leather look. Classic shades of brown and black will keep you on trend for years to come.

Speaking of trench coats, length is in this fall. Trenches in leather, denim, suede, wool, and that classic khaki cotton are always in style. Not only are coats a must have in the cooler months, a trench is a classic piece that will become a staple for half the year. I love throwing a trench over a basic outfit when running errands or grabbing lunch. The length of the jacket becomes a statement and immediately elevates any look.
